In this update:
From the recently completed Fourth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention on Mercury (COP 4.2), MELA is advised of a generally balanced outcome in the discussions concerning mercury – added products as follows:
- Only CFLi lamps for general lighting will be phased-out globally by the end of 2025
- CCFL/EEFL lamps for electronic displays will be phased-out by the end of 2025
- A decision on LFL halo-phosphate lamps and LFL triband lamps has been postponed to COP 5 (November 2023)
During the COP 4.2 discussions, several countries echoed comments made in GLA’s Position Statement on the Phasing-out of Fluorescent Lamps which we shared on this site recently.
