In view of the fact that the field of proficiency testing is a recent development in the GCC Member States, and as the infrastructure of laboratories are not yet incorporated in the form of national or regional organizations, the GCC Standardization Organization organised the 2nd GCC Conference for Laboratories Proficiency to investigate needs and thus determine the priorities of Member States in this focus area. MELA’s presence at the event aimed at providing the industry view on market surveillance and to highlight the following particular concerns. To raise awareness with national Market Surveillance Authorities of the need to increase surveillance activities for lighting products in the GCC – Safety first – followed by Performance aspects. To promote regional harmonisation of lighting related standards & minimum energy performance requirements in support of regulatory efforts and labels i.e. official mutual recognition of energy labels between GCC members or creation of GCC level labels.
