MELA Policy Team members met with the Emirates Standards and Metrology Authority (ESMA) to discuss progress on the following issues of concern to the lighting industry:

The Draft Federal Street and Outdoor Lighting Regulation – progress on this issue was presented to ESMA including an update of the project status I.e. that the approach taken by MELA was to give due consideration to existing street and outdoor lighting specifications such as RTA, AD QCC and MOID and current deliverables.

GCC RoHS status – This is still in its draft stages due to the large volume of comments received from various stakeholders/sectors. Draft of the proposed GSO RoHS regulation has progressed through the WTO process. A stakeholder meeting will be held towards the end of 2019.

ECAS implementation – Marking requirements for small lighting products and feedback on the ECAS usage policy.

Lighting Institute assistance to ESMA – Presentation on the Lighting Institute and its work in promoting professional lighting education.
